Consequences of prolonged knee contact with a human throat
Was employed as a dirt poor adjunct professor at the community college in Clovis, New Mexico for close to 2.5 years. The town, just on the edge of tornado alley, is full of friendly folks and a Taco Villa! There used to be Quiznos that got replaced by a piss poor Wing place!!!
I followed the news closely and do not recall A SINGLE INCIDENCE of police brutality or expressions of racism/violence towards the decently educated African American contingent. I was rather surprised to see this peaceful George Floyd protest at the corner of 7th and Main street near the conservation of water billboard you see in the picture.
The police officer assigned to monitor this rather sluggish assembly of protester had an easy job on this 102 degree Fahrenheit windy day. The composition of this Black Lives Matter group was 75% Black with a few token White people enjoying the attention of videoing motorists.
I wanted to stop and personally ask any of sign bearing people if they had experienced anything bad with Clovis law enforcement? Rebecca Dewere has faintly suggested on a few social media platforms that racism does exist, but in a more systemic rather than the overt "call you a nigger in public" that you get from a lot of West Texas oilfield rednecks.
I do applaud the civilized nature of the demonstration and respect the informed nature of the populace which is home to some Asian/Ethnic Stores due to the Cannon Air Force Base.
