The Oldest Man in The World NEVER had kids

This is for all you couples who have, of your own volition, NOT had children. How often have your friends with kids stopped just short of begging you to have kids? Having children and raising them properly is perhaps the most challenging task on the face of the planet.

Kids compete for your time and your money. Parents have to deal with rebellious adolescents, whether or not to support their gay progeny, other jealous parents, ineffective teachers, how to handle bullies, and a depressing list of other irritants.

Life as childless couples know it ends after procreation. I am certainly happy my parents committed the selfless act of having me and raising me, but I am not up to the task of dealing with the problems they went through raising a family of five.

I was not surprised to read that Alexander Imich, a Polish-born psychic researcher who was certified the oldest man on earth, was never a father. Imich died recently in Manhattan at the age of 111 placing him in the class of supercentarian(those 110 years of age or older)

Imich attributed his long life to the fact that he and his wife, Wela, a painter and therapist who died in 1986, never had children. He also exercised, ate sparingly and never drank alcohol

Listen, I know how jaded this all comes off. I would not be here writing about the stress of having a ton of kiddos if it were not for the efforts of my self-sacrificing parents. If you only take away one thing from this, then please be Damn Sure before you decide to have children.

The 19 Kids and Counting program about the Duggar family is a little like the Leave it to Beaver TV program in the 60s. It distorts the reality of what family life is really like, especially large families. One of the reasons the progeny of the Duggar clan all seem quite stable and mature is they were home schooled by exceptional loving,Christian, parents. A kid that is "processed through/survives"  one of the many substandard public schools in the United States will likely be functionally illiterate and not ready to live independently.
