Before you Scream Rape, Count to 3

Teresa Watanabe of the Los Angeles Times just wrote an informative and much needed "expose an injustice" type of article that details the plight of young men falsely accused of rape. A snippet from her "on the cusp of investigative reporting article" reveals the life shattering accounts of three young men who were charged with sexual assault by university officials. These accusations led to expulsion and/or suspension from the college. I do not mean to make light of actual rapes, but I do have a serious bone to pick with women who scream rape because they are just pissed at the guy they had consensual sex with.

Each of the alleged sexual assaults were consequent to one night stands likely originating at a bar near the college campus. Young women who show up to these places are usually looking for the the same thing as the young men. That would be casual, no strings attached sex. If you are looking for a lasting relationship, try a church or the sons of one of your parent's friends, but don't scream rape when you showed up at a pick up bar with your ass spilling out of your shorts and wearing no bra! That type of attire has a single purpose for those donning which is I want to get laid tonight or sooner if any bathroom stalls are available in the bar. How is that Leah Francis of Stanford proved that she was forced to have sex? Were there witnesses who observed her resisting and saying she did not want it OR was it just her word against the guy's word?

In the extremely unlikely case that you are a "good girl" who decided to walk into a testosterone charged bar hoping to find a soul mate and were really forced to have sex against your will, then I sincerely apologize for this rant. If a woman is in a "nonsexual environment" accosted and forced to have sex, then that is clearly rape and rapist should be locked up or killed, but if you are putting yourself out there and agree to go home with a guy, then please be a big girl!!

Also my apologies for this wild tangent, but did you know that doffing is opposite(antonym) of donning. Doffing means to take off an article of clothing which is what happens after you  get picked up at a bar. Read the article by attorney David C. Holmes of Houston describing the usage of the terms donning and doffing protective gear. Lawyers have no choice but to be excellent wordsmiths. Holmes, a PI lawyer, may have been interested in what actions could be construed as taking off one's clothes as a prelude to unwanted sexual advances........Just a thought!

Peter Yu, Drew Sterrett and Lewis McLeod were headed toward bright futures at prestigious colleges and universities when each got involved in one-night sexual encounters. All three young men claimed the encounters were consensual , but the women claimed otherwise. In each case, campus officials found the men responsible for sexual assault and expelled or suspended them.
