Banning the Sale of Laser Pointers Sounds good to Me

Ask Sergio Rodriguez, 26, of Clovis,CA, if pointing a laser at a Fresno police helicopter was a good idea. Rodriguez knew that shining a laser in the direction of an aircraft that is taking off or trying to land could cause a fatal crash, but committed the "prank" anyway.

He and his girlfriend Jennifer Coleman get to think about the error in their ways for the next 14 years in a prison cell as they were both convicted by a federal jury after a three–day trial in December.

To all you parents with mischievous kiddos, the FBI is offering $10,000 rewards that would be payable by the parents of children who intentionally or inadvertently point a laser at a plane. If fatalities or injuries are a result of your children's actions, then you and Sergio Rodriguez could end up having more in common than ownership of laser pointer.

This could mushroom into the same debate about limiting gun sales. Plane loads of people do not want to worry about being taken down by a kid with a laser pointer.
