I love Larry Bell's Views on Gun Control

I want you to read a verbatim refutation of why trying to place more restrictions own gun ownership is egregiously unfair to all but a vanishing small percentage of the population. It comes to us from Larry Bell writing for Forbes.

As much as gun control advocates might wish otherwise, their attacks are running out of ammo. With private firearm ownership at an all-time high and violent crime rates plunging, none of the scary scenarios they advanced have materialized. Abuse of responsibility by armed citizens is rare, while successful defensive interventions against assaults on their lives and property are relatively commonplace.

Please allow me a more long winded paraphrasing of Mr. Bell's incisively penned paragraph: There is a very strong direct correlation between private firearm ownership and a reduction in criminal action or crime rates. Citizens who legally apply for gun ownership and are granted ownership rarely if ever show up at schools or theaters and start slaughtering people. Legal gun owners frequently successfully defend themselves from home invasions, assaults, and the like! Some might remember the example of the 12 year old kid who found a shotgun in his house and shot two kids who he claimed had bullied him at a Middle School in Roswell,NM. His parents bear much of that responsibility and should, perhaps, have their gun license's revoked.

Finally, what I meant by a vanishing small percentage of the population are the parents and loved ones of the victims of the murderous rampages that seem to occur about twice a month these days. Who can forget the emotionally stirring, heartfelt pleas of Richard Martinez as he blamed what he perceived to be weak gun laws for his son's tragic passing? All due sympathy and condolences to this grieving gentleman, but taking guns out of the hands out of all Americans is not the solution. I do favor control of automatic and semi-automatic weapons.
