Dental Vanity Shaming

 A very eye opening and information packed article by Florence Williams came to mind when I saw this vanity shaming dentist advertisement on a Blog somewhere out there in cyberspace. The article containing the picture of the shill was about a small town either in New Mexico or Texas. It was Kermit,Carlsbad, or Roswell if memory serves. 

The pic is an eyeless female with a missing Lateral Incisor or maybe third Canine, and it is a power play, make the patient feel self-conscious type of ad! The woman in the ad does not have any problems with oral health which should be the first aim of honorable dentistry. 

Also note that the billboard is next to an old beat up abandoned building in some ghost town where the percentage of citizens with bad, decayed, and unsightly teeth is probably high. Like they can afford to pay for expensive implants to begin with!!!!!

So I would ask Doctors Brown and Maupin to educate the people of their town regarding prevention of cavities RATHER THAN WAITING FOR TEETH TO ROT and replacing them with expensive implants. Of course, from a business model point of view, prevention is not as profitable as a $4000 cost per tooth implant!!

Also dental surgeons should thoroughly disclose to all patients the risks listed by  Christine Frank, DDS and Valencia Higuera:

Nerve or tissue damage may occur when a surgeon places an implant too close to a nerve. Red Flags of damage include numbness or tingling in the tongue, lips, gums, or face.

Foreign body rejection relatively rare, but can happen. Indications of rejection include increased pain at the implant site, swelling, fever, and chills.

A dental implant placed in the upper jaw may invade the sinus cavity.


I would certainly expect this dental office in Kermit practice more professionalism regarding the overall well being of their customers!!!!

    That sign used to be posted in Vaughn NM near that truck stop gas station coming in on highway 285 from the South. One of the dentists there in Roswell is a short little guy who runs the place on Union street near Military Heights Elementary school. They have really nice office building, but he has a problem with anger management. Brother had some crown work done there and was overbilled. The little guy, not sure if it was Maupin or Brown got really pissed when bro tried to get him to come down on the bill.

    Even though BETHESDA FAMILY DENTISTRY in Maryland says Cosmetic Dentistry Isn’t Just Vanity, we all know it really is more about the fact that cosmetic dentistry is much more profitable than crowns, root canals, extractions which can be tedious and are less of a money maker for the business!!

The Clerk has your Gasoline Receipt

How many times on a cold or rainy day have you gotten the following message at the gas pump indicating you have to enter the convenience store in order to pick up your receipt for gasoline purchase? The last thing anybody wants to see from a credit card purchase gas pump is a message stating that the clerk has the receipt! On this particular day, I was already late to pick up our daughter from day care and did not have time to walk into AllSups to pick up receipt from the convenience store attendant. Did I say CONVENIENCE store!? I think many roadside convenience stores intentionally do not reload the receipt paper rolls in order to force customers into their establishment. Once inside, customer may buy a lottery ticket, cigarettes, beer, condom, etc. Many patrons need the gas receipts either to be reimbursed by their employer or for their IRS tax itemization. Gas stations doing this are in violation of some law. Not many of have the time to file a lawsuit against gas

Homeowner's Tree dangerously Blocking Stop Sign

 As I far as I know code enforcement has contacted the female you see in the picture below regarding a huge front yard tree that is blocking a stop sign at a busy four way intersection.  She would be in violation of laws dealing with obstructing traffic signs in any other city. She resides at 113 West Deming Zip code 88203 in Roswell New Mexico. You can see how dangerous her uncut and untrimmed huge tree is at the corner of South Richardson and Deming in the picture below. I am sure she has received a lot of stimulus money as well as unemployment payments from Uncle Sam so I know she has the cash to cover the costs of cutting the hazardous tree down to size!! I worked for code enforcement in Midland Texas and they would have warned this homeowner once and the then fined her for neglect and threatening the general welfare of the public.
