Finding a Probate Attorney who charges reasonable Rates.

Something has been bothering me for some time concerning the legal affairs of my parents.  We can start with a definition to make matters a little more clear:

A probate lawyer is a state licensed attorney who "helps"  the executors and the beneficiaries of an estate to settle the affairs of the decedent including how much money and property is split up between quarreling heirs. .

Back to what is pissing me off. Why do attorneys make so much money off of people dying? Real Estate agent Vivian Black has written thoughtfully about this controversial topic.

We have been stuck in Roswell,NM much longer than intended due to COVID and pressing family matters. Our time here makes us well aware of tending to the legal disposition of our aging parent's estate which almost always involves a probate attorney.

We naturally tried to acquaint ourselves with these legal fees not expecting the cost of retaining a probate lawyer to be even worse than the ridiculously high prices of medical care!  Sander's Law Firm had the most positive reviews when we Googled "fair or low priced probate attorneys". There was also a Randy K. Clark hit which seemed to indicate he was a new lawyer just breaking in. When we called both places inquiring about pricing, we could not get them to lock in on an affordable estimate for their services. The most puzzling was a gentlemen who we originally thought was a preacher because of a moralizing newspaper column dealing with theology, legacy, Old Testament writings, and be the best you can be type of rhetoric. We researched him and found he wants to be President and decided that type of goal might interfere with him giving us quality time regarding settling our parent's estate. Mr Kraft, good luck with your campaign and thanks for wanting to champion the interests  of underrepresented rural America where our beloved parents retired.  You are fighting the good fight sir!

We had heard that Nathan Kennard might represent himself in a pending Chaves County litigation. Not sure who will be the counsel for the estates of Johnny Sena or Jettie Jewell Miles. I know the creditors of the decedents want there money back, but what about the lawyers fees. Do the legal counsel get their cut and then split up what is left with the credit card companies, mortgage, delinquent property tax, car loans etc.?

Sorry all, but I just can't get rid of the image of a desperate lawyer accessing hospital records searching for a list of terminally ill rich people.
