Burning Question IRS has NOT clearly answered regarding Stimulus Payments
Katie Lobosco's article, about the topical WHEN will stimulus checks/wire transfers will be sent to the populace, left out a crucial detail.
Said article indicates citizens who have filed tax returns in 2018 or 2019 and authorized direct deposit have to take no action and the desperately needed tax free cash will land in their bank account muy pronto!
However, what about people and couples who provided IRS with routing numbers and account numbers prior to 2018, but then started paying off Uncle Sam with their 2% cash back credit cards. Understand, I am not talking about direct deposit, but allowing the IRS to draft/wire the money out of the bank to pay off what you owe them in income tax.
So the ginormous question is DOES IRS STILL HAVE YOUR BANK INFORMATION ON FILE? or do you have to resubmit your routing number and account number via the web portal sluggish government officials have been promising for about a month now?!! The CNN article does not make that clear at all.

The IRS Get My Payment page has told us they have our bank information for the last 2 weeks and that the economic impact money will be deposited. In the meantime my kids are close to starving and we me maybe part of the crime wave if we don't get money soon! Please get off of your asses government and do your damn jobs and pay the people who have faithfully paid their taxes on time!!!!
ReplyDeleteI am furious!!! On Wednesday when the IRS opened the “Get My Payment” tool I went on and put in my direct deposit information. I received a message stating I was eligible and when they had a release date they would post it. Then it showed that the payment would be sent to my bank account (showed the last four digits and everything). Today I check to see the status and it stated that a check will be sent out next Friday to my address!!! I am beyond pissed my kids needed that money NOW!!!! The crazy part is I have had the same damn bank account for years and always use it for my refund.
ReplyDeleteWe didn't get a direct deposit, but as I read through this article--more thorough than others I have seen--it appears to be the case that we're SOL and will have to wait for a check. We have filed every year forever, and this past year is the first time I can recall ever having owed the feds. So, for the sake of owing the IRS $36 for 2019, they don't have our direct deposit information from dozens of previous years?
Completely different scenario: I have a friend (yes, really) who received a check or deposit, don't know exactly which, in the name of her mother, who passed away in 2019. Friend thinks she needs to give the money back because her mother is DEAD. imho, if the woman paid taxes in 2019, she is due the money and it goes to her "estate," such as it was (next to nothing would be my understanding). Anybody know the law on this matter? I told her there was no point trying to contact the IRS right now, anyway.
I went to the "get my payment" to research where is was. I did not apply for a refund on my 2019 return that was filed electronically by my tax preparer almost month ago. I asked that my refund be applied to future quarterly tax payments (I am 78 and retired) so that the IRS does not have direct deposit information. I entered all the bank information correctly. The message I got was that they could not find my 2019 electronically filed return. My tax prepared is stumped. So am I. Hopefully I will receive money as part of the SS deposit as the direct deposit information is on file there. Another example of the Trump Lunacy and Bullshit.

This is ridiculous! We filed ur taxes in March, got our refund a week later. We get our ss checks every month. Friends have gotten their checks. Both of our adult children have not received their checks. IRS knows where we are and has our direct deposit account info. Govt can't seem to do anything right.
The God damned government. It is no wonder they have to have such high level security! We put our ssn, DOB, address into Get My Payment. For the last 2 weeks, it has been saying we will soon give you the date direct deposit will be done. NOTHING. our kid is starving my paycheck is less now and the God Damned government is doing nothing. We pay our taxes on time. We do everything right but fucking government run by career politicians does not really care!!
