Should Cash Only Businesses be legal?

The village of Ruidoso is a welcome treasure to the southeastern part of New Mexico which is often considered the armpit of the state.

This resort town offers Colorado like recreational alternatives to the residents of places like Midland and Odessa Texas who live in arid desert like conditions for much of the year as a sacrifice for raking in the Oil and Gas dollars. Some Texans drive through Ruidoso as though they owned the place, but that is another Rant.

It is well known among accountants and CPAs that the IRS hates CASH BUSINESSES since it is virtually  impossible to track cash transactions. This is because they  can be easily hidden from required cash receipt record keeping laws. Such businesses are required to have a clear electronic record  of all Cash income AND if the business is lax in this aspect, then they will appear quickly on IRS radar screen!

So we wondered about all this as we dined at Cafe Rio equipped with an ATM machine because they only accept cash to pay for their mouth watering delectable pizza. Should change their name to Ruidoso Pizzeria if that name is not already being used!

This pizza joint was jam packed all day long. We had to wait over an hour to get in and were not disappointed with the service. A guy with beard and a shirt that had "DON'T SUCK" written on it was friendly enough, but was sort of rushing bar customers. He was one of those waiters who tried to pick up plates and clean up the area before patrons had consumed that last slice. He was kind enough to inform us of a public restroom on Eagle street not far from the establishment since their bathroom facilities were inadequate for the customer traffic.

My concern is why would a place that is raking in the money inconvenience customers by NOT accepting credit cards? IRS audits can be a bitch. Maybe owners of this cash business are aware of how overworked the IRS is and are not concerned about being audited?

I know we hope this does not happen cuz we just love your pizza!!! BTW, there were two beggars asking for money in that public restroom.
