Boorish Adult Basketball Fans
Incivility and disrespect abound these days in our nation's basketball arenas. The photograph you see below in such an example. A Clarendon, Texas Junior College basketball fan had been berating game officials all night whining and crying on almost every call that went against her team. I don't think former alumni William Clarence "Bill" Sarpalius would have condoned the behavior of this loud, high-heeled, disrespectful fanatic of her community college team. She literally screamed at officials and sometimes talked to the players on a first name basis almost as if she was the wife of the coach.
So do abused referees have any recourse when dealing with obnoxious, immature adults who constantly yell at them during the game? A fascinating article by Joe Haefner and Don Kelbick describes options that game officials have with regard to ejecting out of control fans from the game.
High school official Jimmy Casas, from Seattle Washington, put up with horrible criticism and verbal abuse at multiple games where Athletic Directors were called upon to deal with the embarrassing for the school issues.

That blond woman at basketball game in New Mexico at the military school is a babbling Cajun. I can not remember her dang name! Mark-Anthony McReed outa Boston Massachusetts is a loud mouth too and knows that woman real well if you know what I mean??!! Esahia Nywie is a leaping fool and best player on the team.
ReplyDeleteLouisiana boy Da'Vantre Vitor probably knows her well too. Coach Isaac Fontenot-Amedee cursed at his own players calling them idiots and jerking them from game when they make mental mistakes.
We have sat next to rude fans like that and gotten stadium security to warn then or even ESCORT their abrasive butts out of the arena! There was article in Toronto paper written by Ananth Pandian about NBA coaching staff and courtside fans abusing and denouncing referees and fans from the other team.
ReplyDeleteOn the football side of things, who could forget Pat Narduzzi and his sideline tirades and misbehavior after Pittsburg got their butts kicked by West Virginia.
