No preachin and No politikin at this Church

We were tickled at this ad in the Roswell,NM newspaper. It advertised a Senior Jubilee at Grace Community CHURCH and promised no preaching at bottom of advertisement!

This is certainly a very light rant because events like these are much needed in this city that has many of the characteristics of a retirement community. However, it is rather disconcerting that a place that functions as a Church has to promise no preaching in order to attract attendees! This is sort of like a kid in a school classroom raising their hand and saying "awwww, do we really have to read our assignment?"

We are happy our parents have settled in Roswell to enjoy their Golden Years. I am sure they will benefit from the presentations of Beverly Bucklew, Cecilia Acosta, and Larry Lorenzo. Paula and Gary Mitchell will enact what should be a heart warming love story titled Bruno and Alice.




Utilizing a Church in this fashion, stressing reservations required and limited seating, reminds one of a for profit enterprise. Lifting Rural Voices advertises it as free, but it appears to be funded by the state and county which probably means they get more money if more people attend. Hmmmm, I guess no preaching must mean more people showing up which means more money. 

So we have come full circle in determining what most of us really worship....The Almighty Dollar.

The Clerk has your Gasoline Receipt

How many times on a cold or rainy day have you gotten the following message at the gas pump indicating you have to enter the convenience store in order to pick up your receipt for gasoline purchase? The last thing anybody wants to see from a credit card purchase gas pump is a message stating that the clerk has the receipt! On this particular day, I was already late to pick up our daughter from day care and did not have time to walk into AllSups to pick up receipt from the convenience store attendant. Did I say CONVENIENCE store!? I think many roadside convenience stores intentionally do not reload the receipt paper rolls in order to force customers into their establishment. Once inside, customer may buy a lottery ticket, cigarettes, beer, condom, etc. Many patrons need the gas receipts either to be reimbursed by their employer or for their IRS tax itemization. Gas stations doing this are in violation of some law. Not many of have the time to file a lawsuit against gas

Homeowner's Tree dangerously Blocking Stop Sign

 As I far as I know code enforcement has contacted the female you see in the picture below regarding a huge front yard tree that is blocking a stop sign at a busy four way intersection.  She would be in violation of laws dealing with obstructing traffic signs in any other city. She resides at 113 West Deming Zip code 88203 in Roswell New Mexico. You can see how dangerous her uncut and untrimmed huge tree is at the corner of South Richardson and Deming in the picture below. I am sure she has received a lot of stimulus money as well as unemployment payments from Uncle Sam so I know she has the cash to cover the costs of cutting the hazardous tree down to size!! I worked for code enforcement in Midland Texas and they would have warned this homeowner once and the then fined her for neglect and threatening the general welfare of the public.
