Where the Hell is the lake in this small town?

We read that New Mexico is one of the least expensive retirement spots in the USA due to stable real estate values and warm weather most of the year. A hasty Google search pulled up a town near Artesia New Mexico that boasted fairly priced homes not too far from medical facilities in Carlsbad and bigger population centers like Roswell.

So we loaded up the SUV and high tailed it to Lake Arthur located about 5 miles east of US285 not too far out of Artesia and down the road from a place called Hagerman.

We spotted the fixer-upper you see in the picture below located in the extreme eastern part of Lake Arthur. Knocked on the door, but no answer. My boy and me are quite handy and think we could turn this derelict looking property into a habitable retirement home making it the envy of other home owners.

That boy of mine is looking to get hitched to one of the school teachers at the home of the Panthers. Some of them appeared to be single maybe looking to tie the knot with a handsome eligible bachelor to create a dual income family!! Maybe the Dexter Pastor Stephen Deutsch could conduct the wedding ceremony if we can find the owner of this home in order to make an offer and get busy on the remodeling of our future home! Newspaper reporter Amy Lignor wrote a nice piece about this humble man of the cloth.

Our big concern, of course, is the absence of a police department or even a convenience store for that matter. We did notice some teenagers playing basketball at a nice facility on the way out of town. So I guess we will have to entertain ourselves in Roswell about 30 miles North of our future home. We don't like big cities much, but we have to face the fact that we will get stir crazy in a place named after a lake WITH NO LAKE. I guess battling the traffic and congestion of a big city is preferable to being around the drug addiction problems that are common in very small communities with populations less than 500.

    Heard through the grape vine that a Lake Arthur resident is the NEW NMMI High School Principal!! New Mexico Military Institute insiders were shocked at the selection since many high end PHD types including a well respected English Teacher and History teacher were rejected when they both have sooooo much experience at the Institute!!!

    The Academic Dean was wise to pick somebody from outside in a place that has much worse gossips and Drama that RISD

The Clerk has your Gasoline Receipt

How many times on a cold or rainy day have you gotten the following message at the gas pump indicating you have to enter the convenience store in order to pick up your receipt for gasoline purchase? The last thing anybody wants to see from a credit card purchase gas pump is a message stating that the clerk has the receipt! On this particular day, I was already late to pick up our daughter from day care and did not have time to walk into AllSups to pick up receipt from the convenience store attendant. Did I say CONVENIENCE store!? I think many roadside convenience stores intentionally do not reload the receipt paper rolls in order to force customers into their establishment. Once inside, customer may buy a lottery ticket, cigarettes, beer, condom, etc. Many patrons need the gas receipts either to be reimbursed by their employer or for their IRS tax itemization. Gas stations doing this are in violation of some law. Not many of have the time to file a lawsuit against gas

Homeowner's Tree dangerously Blocking Stop Sign

 As I far as I know code enforcement has contacted the female you see in the picture below regarding a huge front yard tree that is blocking a stop sign at a busy four way intersection.  She would be in violation of laws dealing with obstructing traffic signs in any other city. She resides at 113 West Deming Zip code 88203 in Roswell New Mexico. You can see how dangerous her uncut and untrimmed huge tree is at the corner of South Richardson and Deming in the picture below. I am sure she has received a lot of stimulus money as well as unemployment payments from Uncle Sam so I know she has the cash to cover the costs of cutting the hazardous tree down to size!! I worked for code enforcement in Midland Texas and they would have warned this homeowner once and the then fined her for neglect and threatening the general welfare of the public.
