Who pays Bank maintenance fees nowadays?

Does anybody out there in cyberspace have the faintest idea how Bank of America stays in business with all their fees and charges?

We have a credit card with them that pays two percent cash back on all purchases of groceries including purchases made a warehouse stores like Sam's Club and Costco. We are happy with that, but not with the constant barrage of emails begging us to open a Bank account with them.

The latest was an offer of $300 to open an account with one of the requiremnets being to have $4000 worth of direct deposits sent to the account withing 90 days of account opening. Then you had wait another period of time and they would deposit the free 300 dollars in your account.

One of their accounts has a ridiculously high $25 maintenance fee if you don't do certain difficult to understand requirements. You had to enter your zip code, for some unspecified reason, to determine would your meager interest rate would be! Ours just hung when we entered our Abilene,Texas zip code. This was right in the middle of the horrible tornado weather, so may not be BOA's fault.

Places like Schwab charge you nothing to have an ATM supported Bank account, so I sure don't get why Bank of America can stay afloat. You would think they would have figured it out by now!!!
