Hitting into double plays with bases loaded too often can end a major leaguer's career

Jacob Shawn Marisnick plays professional baseball for the Houston Astros. He is an outfielder who is showing signs of being a liablity in the batting order.

Yesterday, in the last game of a three game series at Boston's Fenway Park, Jake grounded into an inning ending double play with the bases loaded. In the last inning, the Riverside California native struck out with a man on where the Astros had a chance to  tie or win the game an sweep the series against the World Series champions.

Jake has to figure out a way to not ground into double plays with bases loaded if he wants to stay in Hinch's starting lineup. Craig Biggio went an entire 162 game season WITHOUT HITTING INTO A DOUBLE PLAY back in the day!

  1. Jake hit into triple play against White Sox tonight. Hard ground ball to third base with runners on first and second. Buddy was at game and said Jake did not leg it out like a professional should!!

    1. Marisnick hit into a double play batting against the Brewer Hader, a good relief pitcher. Jake is a relatively weak bat even if you take away all the DPs(not double penetrations) that he has grounded into.

  2. Roberto Osuna no longer a reliable closer. Very weak outing in Cincinnati where he did not get an out and blew a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the nineth against the RedLegs. Also Tyler White needs to be sent down to minors. ZERO PRODUCTION out of below average baseball player!!

  3. Leave it to the Stros to figure out a way to be LOSING when they have 8 hits and their Yankee opponents ONLY have 2 hits. Houston is losing 3-2!!

    1. Hinch has send pitcher Framber Valdez down to DOUBLE AA minor league. Very weak player. Does not belong in big leagues.

    2. I have to add Mitch Garver to your list of under performers for grounding into a double play with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 9th to lose the game to Oakland Athletics. It as sort of a "walk off" LOSING at bat for Garver who has to understand game situation AND NOT RECORD TWO OUTS when his team is down A SINGLE RUN.

Liam Hendriks was the cool cat, who used to play for Twins that induced(or got lucky) the GAME ENDING DP

    3. The Astros are not a very good team of late. They go into Oakland with an eleven game lead in the Central Division of the American league and proceed to play awful baseball. The offense played well, but every time they got a lead, the Astros now very weak pitching staff gives the lead back.

They go up 2-0 and then Albuquerque Isotope pitcher Rogelio Armenteros proves why he is only an average Triple A pitcher by giving up 5 runs. At this point in season, Astros could not beat the Wild Card teams. The are choking in at bats with runners in scoring position and Verlander is not really reliable any more. The Oaklands As are better team and should win the division. Astros don't really deserve to go to the playoffs. Not that good a team.

  4. Pitcher Aaron Sanchez came to the Astros with a horrible record for reason. It is starting to become apparent that Sanchez will NOT be a reliable post season staff member. Bregman gave astros 2-0 lead with 2 run blast against Oakland. Sanchez folds by giving up 3 run shot in the bottom of the inning. Championship pitchers get 1-2-3 innings after be given a two run lead!

  5. I agree with your commentary about Marisnick. I don't think he has had a hit with a runner in scoring position all season. I also think Alvarez will choke big time in post season. Almost any left handed pitcher dominates him lately. Jake can not be part of the starting line up in post season play. Oakland is better team than Houston now despite the astros having a better record. Even Verlander is extremely susceptible to the home run ball. They lost to weakest team in baseball with Verlander giving up only 2 hits BOTH homeruns in 2-1 loss to Detroit!!

They just look like a weak, no confidence team after losing 3 out of 4 to athletics. Also Correa is injury prone.

  6. Pitcher Joe Biagini just walked the lead off batter in top of the 9th inning with houston holding a 15-1 lead against Tampa Bay Rays!! That is a playoff alert. Even Triple AAA pitchers are programmed NOT TO DO THAT!!!!!!
